10 Violent Video Game Moments That Were Incredibly Satisfying
2. Getting Used To Killing Zombies - The Walking Dead
From over-gratuitous gore cherry-picked from a series' landscape awash in ultraviolence to a one that pulls its punches and saves them for just the right moment when you're paying the most attention. Over the course of two seasons-worth of gameplay, developer Telltale have developed a signature trait of creating the most harrowing and dour circumstances possible - and putting them under your control. There's a whole load of awful scenes that exist only in shades of grey, with you struggling to pick an appealing option amongst a sea of bad choices. One of the times you're actually in a position of power though, is right after the game's intro when you're stranded alone in what you'll discover is partner Clementine's house - only to then be assaulted by a wayward zombie that thanks to the game's incredibly affecting and consequential tone is extremely intimidating and threatening. Eventually Clem arrives at the door behind you with a hammer, to which after you've battered the zombie a couple of times could be put aside. Instead though as the developers remarked through playtest sessions, as people became so invested in fighting off the deadly creature, we all smashed the living daylights out of the its face, leaving a huge mess behind and hands clutched tighter than ever on the controller.
