10 Ways Bioware Can Still Save Mass Effect

5. Build A Crew, One Alien At A Time (Mimic Mass Effect 2's Progression)

Andromeda's crew - whilst having potential - fell flat in the long run, mainly because both they and Ryder in general (especially the constantly stuttering, 'awkward comedy lols' of FemRyder) couldn't get past surface level appeal.

Now, rather than start out with a full crew to dart between on your respective ship, let's see Mass Effect 2's progression return. In essence it's the best possible structure: You start with a key number of personnel; a pilot, some starting members and slowly you build your squad, 'unlocking' a new character every couple of hours or so.

This way there's an excuse to spend time getting to know them and seeing how they affect the dynamic of play. And, if we're running with the First Contact War idea, for example, there'd be all sorts of post-fallout conversations surrounding why the various races would even join up with "a band of humans" to aid in a wider goal.

A key element of Mass Effect is discovery, and that goes double for the crew.
