10 Ways God Of War 4 Is Already The Best In Years

8. It Promises To Be A More Mature Instalment

There have been glimpses of humanity beneath his ruthless exterior, but Kratos has never been the most complex character in video game history.

Driven by an insatiable need for vengeance and always one for instant gratification, whether it comes in the form of bedding a Greek goddess or ripping the head off a minotaur, the Ghost of Sparta is a twisted parody of a red-blooded male.

Anyone who considered him a relatable protagonist should be deeply concerned about their own state of mind, but the new God of War will introduce us to a more human Kratos - a brooding anti-hero who takes his role as a father seriously.

Cut from the same mould as Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us, the game will focus on the relationship between Kratos and his offspring as he attempts to master the rage that once consumed him and step up as a mentor in a world fraught with danger.

This tonal shift has set the stage for a more mature offering that’s capable of stirring up emotion in the player, when they’re not too busy dismembering trolls, of course.
