Right now ALL progression is cosmetic. You venture out onto the map to nab treasure chests, skulls or animals, and take them to outposts to trade for gold. That's it.

This gold can be used to purchase cosmetics ranging from different skins for your starting equipment (which is also all the equipment in the entire game), or parts of clothing. Now, I love a good shiny peg leg or a whopping great feather-topped tricorne hat, but... well, meaningful additions to gameplay would just be better.

This is all besides the fact that affording some of the best-looking gear in the game comes with price tags into the tens of thousands - something that feels tagged on as the only way to manufacture any sense of progression whatsoever.
