10 Ways Spyro: Reignited Is Better (And Worse) Than Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy
7. Better: Less Frustrating
Spyro is just easier. I know we should all just git gud but the fact is the tweaked jumps and hit boxes make Crash even harder than it was. But worse than hard, it sometimes feels cheap.
The turtle bouncing section on The High Road used to be a little forgiving, but now anything short of perfect is instant death. And if you fail enough times, you’ll get an Aku Aku mask. Which is completely useless against death by falling. Smashing. Add to that the new Stormy Ascent level, cut from the original game because of its difficulty then before the jumps got nerfed, and you’ve got a recipe for broken controller stew.
Spyro, on the other hand, can always take four hits before death thanks to Sparx. Falls are insta kills still, but jumps are rarer and he has wings to help out. Also, with the game being less linear you’ll rarely be trying one checkpoint over and over again.
There’s nothing wrong with a bit of a challenge. Gaming is often about eventually beating something you poured a lot of time into. But for relaxed, nostalgic fun, Spyro is definitely the way to go.
