10 Ways Spyro: Reignited Is Better (And Worse) Than Crash Bandicoot: N Sane Trilogy

8. Worse: Boss Battles

Spyro Crash

Crash’s boss battles required patience, skill, timing, and often a bit of rehearsal. They weren’t Dark Souls, but they were a challenge nonetheless.

Take N Gin from Warped. He has a huge health bar, and as Coco you need to decide whether to risk your own health by going for his big guns first or whittling down his health with the little ones. Or Tiny Tiger from Cortex Strikes Back. You have to keep an eye on both him and the platforms beneath you to dodge and land safely, only attacking at certain opportunities.

Spyro does go this route in Ripto’s Rage and Year Of The Dragon, but there’s not very many in the second and a few in the third seem a bit samey. In Spyro The Dragon, most boss battles are glorified chase sequences. Yes, the levels leading up to them are fun, but Blowhard and Jacques go down ridiculously easy. Doctor Shemp at least has an attack pattern to learn.

While Cortex’s battle in the second game is widely regarded as the N Sane trilogy’s worst, the entire first game of Spyro uses the same model. It’s clearly second best on this issue.
