Did Leonardo da Vinci look upon his completed masterpiece and think to himself 'how can I use the Mona Lisa to extract as much money from the public as I can?'

The debate of 'can video games be art' is a heated one, but while its artistic merit is challenged, what can't be disputed is that a video game is the result of months --if not years-- of hard work. Programmers, creative directors, artists, writers and the like all spend their time and energy on a project, so when it hits shelves, it does so with the agreement that it's a completed body of work, ready for consumption in its entirety.

Lootboxes plague the online games community, extracting even more money from the pocket of their install base. In so many instances, the chances of acquiring that legendary weapon or incredible player are so minimal that you're left with no choice but to dip back into the personal savings to have even a shot at achieving such a feat.

The mechanic is fine, if anything the thrill of the unknown is enticing, but by making the gameplay unbalanced and placing the weapons you need to actually be competitive behind the system is downright scummy.
