2. PSN Security
Though we've already mentioned the
functionality of PSN, what about the security? The infamous 2011 PSN outage caused Sony's stock - both literally and figuretively - to take a huge dive, and it's something the company is still constantly mocked for; that they allowed hackers to bring the service to its knees for so long is outrageous and unacceptable, as was the massive leak of compromised customer data. People don't tend to forget these things, and by comparison, the Xbox Live service just looked even better than it already did. While it's
so unlikely that PSN would suffer any similar such outage again, it sews a seed of doubt in people's minds, and along with the robust track record of the Live service on the whole, why would people take a risk on a relatively unknown quantity?
