10 Ways Video Game Worlds Are Nothing Like Reality

1. Life Isn't Linear

Sure we've got a lot of open world games out there, but then again we have a lot of games that are linear. Even in open world games, you still have to reach a certain end with only the path you take being different. That being said, could life actually be linear. The vast majority of us follow the same path in the same way that our characters in games follow the pre-determined path. The norm is the go to school, get a job, get married, have children and grow old. Although we have the free-will to choose what we do with our lives, can an argument be made that our characters have free-will as we choose what to do with them? We don't have to save the princess or save the kingdom, we don't have to acquire the armour of linear-ism in order to defeat the dragon of mundane tasks. What's that you say? Some quests can't be completed unless you follow the requests? The same applies to life, you can't get to university without going to school and you can't get a promotion without first having a job. The difference being that games are still limited and hindered by their developers. If there's a rock in front of you have to go round it or take a run and jump over it. If there's a trolley blocking the door you can't just push it away, oh lordie lord no, you have to find an alternative that involves crawling through vents and jumping through fires. If only games had as many choices as life. Which ways have we missed? Let us know in the comments section below.
