This point doesn't even need an explanation. Magic doesn't seem to exist in the real world and yet games have you casting spells left right and centre. Oblivion would be a lot less fun if I couldn't take out a few goblins with lightning erupting from my hands nor would Tera be just as fun if all I could do was swing around a giant metal club. You see games aren't just a form of entertainment they're a way for us to act out our imagination. I can't jump off a tall building, land on a pocket of air and then take out some enemies with a simple spell in real life, but I'd sure love to do it in a game. Magic allows you to do so many things, just as The Elder Scroll games have shown us. It's not just used for taking out enemies, it can be used to alter your appearance, heal yourself and summon all sorts of mythical beings. Have you ever read a fantasy book and wondered, "Wow, wish I could do that." Well, with gaming, you can.
