10 Weirdest Product Placements In Video Games

4. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker - Snake Drinks Mountain Dew And Eats Doritos

Metal Gear Solid creator, Hideo Kojima, proclaimed that he wanted all the product placement in the 70's setting of Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker to surprise players. They were a surprise alright. There were instances of product placement in previous Metal Gear Solid games, but the advertising in Peace Walker made even less sense than the convoluted storyline of the entire series. Snake can restore his health and psyche by picking up one of gratuitously placed Doritos from the ground or giant floating cans of Mountain Dew. If you need to refill Snake's psyche meter but don't want him ruining his dinner with junk food, you can just get Snake to use some Axe Body spray (despite the brand not existing in the 70's). If there's one thing that will not draw attention, it's by smelling great. Last but not least, you can even have Snake replace his camo-centric wardrobe with a brightly-coloured Mountain Dew or Axe t-shirt. It's difficult to know which is harder to believe: Snake having a Mountain Dew t-shirt in his wardrobe or bad guys somehow not hearing the sound of Snake munching on a bag of Doritos whilst chugging Mountain Dew.

My life story is nothing special. I haven't cured ebola, I'm nowhere near stopping terrorism, and I'm still working on that climate change problem. Instead, all I've done so far is put a few hundred words together in an attempt to make people laugh. You can follow me at @Fry_ying_pan but don't be offended if I don't tweet back. It's usually because I've spent too long trying to think up a witty response that the reply window has closed.
