10 Wonders Of The World You Can Explore In Video Games

1. Notre-Dame Cathedral - Assassin's Creed: Unity

Assassin's Creed origins
Ubisoft

Assassin's Creed Unity was a turning point for the franchise, in that Ubisoft realised it was unrealistic to push out high quality games on an annual deadline. This was obvious as Unity was one of the most hilariously glitchy games the series had produced to that point.

What was obvious though, was the labour of love that went into recreating revolutionary France in such high detail.

Most impressive was its depiction of Notre-Dame De Paris. Built to scale in-game, the attention to every detail is astonishing, from the gargoyles overlooking the city to the glorious Rose Window from both the outside and inside. With sunlight shining through the coloured glass, it's a truly magical atmosphere.

Every corner you turn theres something to find and leap off, able to see things that you would never notice visiting the real thing. Even more so now, given the tragic fire that tore through the cathedral in 2019.

Speaking of which, following this incident Ubisoft pledged €500,000 to fund restoration, and is assisting with the project using the in-game model as reference.

An excellent way to thank this wonderful building for giving gamers a chance to visit it from the comfort of their own homes.
