10 Worst Controller Designs Ever

2. CD-i 220 Controller (1991)

The Offender: Philips The Console: CD-i 220 Worst Component: Ensured that games for the CD-i 220 could never reach the potential of those released on consoles with real controllers. Redeeming Feature: No lawsuits were made against Brøderbund, so presumably not many people bought one. Philips should have been on to a winner with the CD-i line of consoles. One of the earliest consoles to use of CDs, online play, and support for a wide range of peripherals, the CD-i's had the potential to be a great success for the booming hardware manufacturer. Instead, the CD-i consoles are now regarded as amongst the worst of all time, largely thanks to the controllers that came with the devices. They were all terrible in their own way, but the worst has to be the one that shipped with the CD-i 220. The controller didn't just look like a television remote control, it was about equally suited for gaming with. The horribly positioned buttons that surrounded the stick made even the least taxing games difficult to play, and ensured that no good action titles ever made their way onto Philips' console.
