10 Worst Controller Designs Ever

3. The U-Force Motion Controller (1989)

The Offender: Brøderbund The Console: Nintendo Entertainment System (NES) Worst Component: The "infra-red technology" just didn't work; the vast majority of games controlled by the U-Force ranged from unreliable to totally unplayable. Redeeming Feature: No lawsuits were made against Brøderbund, so presumably not many people bought one. The U Force motion controller promised a lot. "Feel the power," announced the television adverts. "The first and only video game controller that, without touching anything, electronically senses your every move, and reacts." It all turned out to be rubbish though. The U-Force was only designed to work with a small number of games from the NES' catalogue, and it was almost totally unusable even with those chosen few. The U-Force had children and adults alike wildly flailing in front of the strange device in an attempt to get it working, and it was never more than a barely functional peripheral. Even worse than the Power Glove in its attempts at motion control, the U Force verged on scam territory with its total lack of delivery on Brøderbund promises.
