10 Worst FPS Campaigns Of All Time
2. Duke Nukem Forever
Next, we have Duke Nukem Forever, a game that spent too many years in development under several different studios. It was quickly consigned to the bargain bin on release.
First announced in 1997, the fifth main instalment had great promise at first. 3D Realms were looking to take advantage of new hardware and really push the series to the next level. What followed was the most infamous case of gaming vapourware. As the years rolled on and development changed hands, it became clear that the final product would struggle to meet expectations.
Duke Nukem returns after a long absence to tackle an alien race who are hellbent on taking Earth's women. Arrived in 2011, those who had waited so long for the game ended up being very disappointed. Duke Nukem Forever stands as a shooter that lacked impact in both gameplay and its wider design.
Over a decade in the making, Duke's final adventure fell victim to the most generic of modern shooter trends. What could have been an old-school style romp instead became a title desperate to copy the competition with some crappy humour to boot. It's now been a full ten years since Duke's last major release and the character is nowhere to be seen.
