6. Wiimote & Nunchuk
Yes, it revolutionised the way we play games and even helped millions of (filthy) casuals join our beloved medium, but for playing anything other than Wii Sports, the Wiimote and Nunchuk were pretty pants controllers.
Through sheer practicality, having the two halves of a standard pad split into what you'd hold in each hand never felt satisfying, and that was before you attempted to play anything with more advanced control schemes.
Such a tunnel vision focus on motion controls and first-party offerings would be the beginning of Nintendo's still-shaky relationship with third-party developers, producing a controller that soared higher than anything else when it came to mainstream acceptance, but didn't have a single decent utilisation outside of what was bundled in with the system.
Oh, and it gave us one of the worst Zeldas in history with Skyward Sword, too - one that Miyamoto himself couldn't control...
