9. Gears Of War 4's Beta Being WAY Too Much Of The Same
You can't beat a bit of Gears, but as the series made the cross-generational leap to newer hardware, its first playable appearance came in the form of a multiplayer beta back in April.
Just think of how far the franchise came across that original trilogy, introducing things like the Horde mode, adding Fatality-style executions, tons of awesome weapons and looking markedly better with each passing instalment.
Then look at Gears 4... because somehow, it looks worse. As newly-formed developers The Coalition have had to rebuild the basic game engine on new hardware, they seem to have achieved that goal, and then given up innovating on anything else. If you love Gears already and literally just want more of the same, great, because the only new move is the ability to pull enemies over cover.
All other features are aiming towards how they always were, with barely any step-up in graphics and a feel to gameplay that actually ends up feeling very flat and un-engaging. Here's to the full release picking up the pieces and keeping going, but as a statement of intent from a franchise that's the digital embodiment of its own chainsaw-mounted assault rifle, this was equivalent to Marcus yelling, "ARGH, CAM AN" as he missed an active reload prompt.
