I have nothing against the so-called 'walking simulators' - Journey's easily one of the best games of 2012 despite its minimalist approach to game design. With that in mind, Proteus should have never been included in Sony's lineup of Playstation Plus games for the month of August in 2014, mainly down to the fact that people can't even agree on whether or not it actually qualifies as a game. That should have been a red flag right there, but an even bigger red flag would be what reviewers used to qualify it as such. The ability to walk around was considered performing an action, and watching the seasons change was the game's achievable goal. You could also apply the same mechanics to a game about watching paint dry and you would get the same outcome.
Any time I'm not writing, I'm likely arguing about children's cartoons with strangers on the internet or staring at my ceiling and wondering where it all went wrong.
