10 Worst Video Game Adverts Of All Time
4. It's Too Long - Hey You! Pikachu!
Because most gaming commercials are about 30 seconds long, it's pretty difficult to make the game look exciting, fun, and desirable. This is extra tricky when the game comes with an accessory, since the advert needs to explain what this add-on does in a way that's easy to understand.
However, the commercial for the N64 exclusive, Hey You! Pikachu! does a great job at demonstrating the game's peripheral - a microphone that allows the titular Pokemon that reacts to the player's voice.
Within the first 20 seconds of watching this clip, you perfectly understand how the game works.
But the advert keeps going.... for another two-and-a-half minutes. Even though there's nothing else to add, it keeps showing more examples of Pikachu reacting and responding to the player speaking.
Ironically, this makes Hey You! Pikachu! come across as boring, since the advert repeatedly emphasises how the adorable yellow mouse won't be responsive at first, since it takes time for the Pokemon to get used to the player's voice. If the commercial ended after after the first 20 seconds, Hey You! Pikachu! would've come across as ten times more appealing.
