10 Worst Video Game Bosses Ever

4. The Black Hand Of Sauron - Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor (2914)

Taking players into the fantastical world of Middle-earth, Middle-Earth: Shadow Of Mordor followed protagonist Talion as he worked to build an army to face the might of Sauron. It was an epic action adventure which put fans in the shoes of a new character where they could use supernatural abilities to slaughter hordes of orcs in slick, Arkham-inspired combat.

At the centre of it all was a revolutionary nemesis system which made every encounter matter as it shaped the landscape of the enemy forces, creating moments of emergent storytelling as Talion’s quest progressed.

While each of these mini encounters were memorable interactions, they were all steppingstones on the way to reach Sauron, one of the most iconic villains ever created. The prospect of fighting this foe was the carrot that kept players grinding through the side quests to get the equipment and forces they needed for the final fight. But it didn’t play out in the way fans may have expected.

While Sauron does join the fray, the epic fight against him is little more than a 15 second cinematic spattered with quick-time events. Though visually impressive to watch, this was far from the boss fight anyone was hoping for.
