10 Worst Video Game Checkpoints EVER

9. "Look At All That Juice!" - Gears Of War

Grand Theft Auto IV
Epic Games

If you've ever played the original Gears of War on higher difficulties, you'll likely have the phrase "Look at all that juice!" burned into your brain, as the Act III finale, "Tip of the Iceberg," offers up one of the most infuriatingly ill-placed checkpoints of all time.

After entering the pumping station and listening to a minute-long chit-chat between Marcus and his team, you'll need to take down a fleet of Theron Guards.

This is easily the most challenging set-piece in the game up to this point, as the guards can use the Torque Bow to kill you in a single shot.

As a result, it takes most players multiple attempts to make it through, and for some baffling reason upon dying, the game hurls you all the way back to the opening dialogue a minute earlier.

And so, in addition to being repeatedly slaughtered by these tough-as-nails enemies, you need to sit through a minute of idle banter again and again while making it to the pumping station.

It's enough to make you lose your mind, and anyone who got stuck on this section for a while likely still remembers the dialogue verbatim. Play it on Insane difficulty only at your own peril.
