10 Worst Video Game Downgrades That Pissed Off EVERYONE

8. Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege

When Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six: Siege was first shown to the world at E3 2014, fans of the genre and newcomers alike were extremely impressed by the delights on show.

Eschewing a traditional story/campaign mode in favour of shorter, more static "situations", the emphasis here was cooperative online play, as players worked together to storm a location, neutralise the tangos, and evac. the hostages.

Fortnite players need not apply, as RS:S emphasised tactics over run-and-gun mechanics.

Sections of the trailer could have been lifted directly from real life news footage, as a chopper circled overhead, spotlight trained on the target location, while the enemies frantically boarded up the windows.

Bright light bloomed through the cracks, casting hostage and hostage taker alike into deep shadows, and the colour palette was suitably atmospheric with the entire sequence being lit in muted hues of blue and grey.

The hostages themselves were armed with complex AI, interacting with drones and generally feeling like real people as opposed to mere objective markers.

The actual release version, and the patched version playable today, pale by comparison.

Hostages more or less just sit there, the colour pallet is bright and saturated, the circling chopper is absent, and the dynamic lighting virtually non-existent.

So disappointing.
