10 Worst Video Game Downgrades That Pissed Off EVERYONE
5. The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker
"What? But everyone loves The Wind Waker!" you exclaim. Well, you're right... they do NOW. Back when it was first announced, however, people HATED it for one main reason: the Space World trade show, 2000.
Part of a sizzle-reel shown by Nintendo to shine a light on upcoming GameCube titles, punters were treated to a 14 second teaser showing Link taking on everyone's favourite ginger, Ganondorf.
A dark, gritty sequence, showing off characters styled after their respective appearances in Ocarina of Time but rendered with then-stunning GameCube graphics and lighting effects, this short and now legendary clip blew the minds of everyone who saw it.
However, Zelda legend Eiji Aonuma HATED it, and did not want to utilise this tired, predictable old visual style. As a result, information on the new Zelda title dried up until the following year's Space World show.
Here, a completely different game was shown in all its cel-shaded glory: The Wind Waker.
Needless to say, many were extremely upset by the "childish" graphics, Toon Link, and the sunshine soaked, idyllic island setting, all of which stood in stark contrast to the dark, grimy, realistic artistic choices of the SW 2000 demo.
Of course people love Wind Waker today, but it was a very different story way back when.
