4. Aliens: Colonial Marines
Sega/Gearbox unveiled Aliens: Colonial Marines at E3 2011, and - shockingly - it looked good, and exactly the sort of game fans of the Alien franchise had been waiting for.
Billed as the true follow up to the film Aliens, Michael Biehn was even brought onboard to reprise his character Corporal Dwayne Hicks, lending his voice to the reluctant hero.
The E3 footage was great, with lighting, smoke, shadows, fog, and particle effects looking terrific in the dark, claustrophobic corridors of Hadley's Hope.
It looked like Aliens - it FELT like Aliens - but then it came out.

Perhaps the biggest tragedy to come out of the A:CM debacle, however, is the fact that we never did get that Wii U port, which would have utilised the Game Pad as a de facto motion tracker; a loss which still resonates to this day.
Far from being gracious in defeat, however, Gearbox's CEO went on the offensive, labelling disappointed fans "sadists".
