10 Worst Video Games Based On Comic Books

9. X-Men: Destiny

Typically, superhero games based on comic books take a specific character or group of characters, and players get to play as them. That's appealing to fans, but X-Men: Destiny went a different route. Instead of controlling Wolverine, Jean Grey, or another mutant member of the group, the game introduced one.

Players created a new character in an action role-playing setting. They then got to choose if they wanted to follow the path set forth by Charles Xavier to become an X-Man or follow Magneto to join forces with the Brotherhood of Mutants. This was a new and appealing take on the franchise, but it didn't work.

The game was widely panned upon release. While the options of choosing sides were somewhat novel for the franchise, there weren't any real consequences for player choices. On top of that, the game was little more than an unpolished button-masher with sluggish gameplay.

X-Men: Destiny looks unfinished because it kind of is. Silicon Knights cut funding during development, so it could be completed in the way it was originally planned. The cuts left the devs with little choice but to complete the game as-is and release it to widespread (and well-earned) criticism.
