9. Die By The Blade

Devil may cry peak of combat
Grindstone

Similar to the PSOne game, Bushido Blade, Die by the Blade is a fighting title that focuses on a realistic damage system. Unlike something like Soul Calibur, Tekken or Mortal Kombat, fighters can be vanquished with a one katana swing. As such, players must rely more on timing, deflection, and strategy, rather than just wailing on your opponent.

It's a solid idea, but poorly executed. The movements, animation fluidity, and combat is so janky, Die By the Blade feels like a 25-year-old game with up-to-date graphics. By relying on roll attacks, players can easily trounce enemy AI, even on the highest difficulty.

Thanks to such a microscopic approach, the sword-slashing title could be mistaken as early access. The single player only has three options - practice, tutorial, and challenge mode. If that doesn't already feel like a slap in the face, challenge mode can only be accessed after hours of grinding. But since this mode consists of endless 1v1 battles with zero variety, it's pointless to unlock.

Die By the Blade had potential, but in the end, this wannabe warrior fell on its sword.
