10 Worst Video Games Of 2024 (So Far)

8. Foamstars

Devil may cry peak of combat
Square Enix

In the same vein as Splatoon, Foamstars is a multiplayer shooter where teams pummel one other with soapy foam. Though the 4x4 online party title screams "rip-off," Foamstars has some creative ideas, like how players can make different terrain styles with foam or stack foam on top of each other to reach previously inaccessible areas.

But in terms of the positive qualities, there's not much else to say. Despite the $30 price tag, Foamstars should've been free-to-play, due to its bare-bones content. With the shovelware gameplay and stock-sounding music, it's hard to believe this pitiful IP was assembled by a gaming giant like SquareEnix. The matchmaking is so slow, players will spend more time queuing than duking it out.

Even when players get to face off, it's nothing special. The shooting mechanics are primitive and slow, to the point where players will be waiting for the match to end as soon as possible. (Maybe if Foamstars ripped off Splatoon's mechanics instead of its aesthetic, it wouldn't be half-bad.) And when a game's business model centres around expensive micro-transactions, it doesn't have a chance at sustaining itself in the long-run.

If Foamstars' servers aren't closed down within two years, it will be a real shock.
