Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle: Shredder's Revenge wasn't just a stupendous beat 'em up, but a beautiful love letter to the 1987 animated series.

With Leonardo, Raphael, Donatello, and Michelangelo having a recent resurgence, it was decided to bring the 2017 arcade title, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, to consoles. Rather than doing a straight port, this version, renamed TMNT Arcade: Wrath of the Mutants, contained additional levels and brand new bosses.

Annoyingly, the 3D side-scroller is sure to bore even the biggest turtle fanatics. The controls are insultingly simple, making all the combat feel monotonous. Even if the controls were up to standard, fights can be completed with mindless button-mashing, since every enemy has the same mechanics.

Although extra levels and bosses were added into the port, there's no additional content outside the main campaign, so everything can be completed in 90 minutes. The voice actors' performances are stellar but players will be inclined to put their head through the wall after hearing the same obnoxious catchphrases over and over.

It's not the worst game in the franchise, but Wrath of the Mutants' defects are glaring since it was released only two years after arguably the best ninja turtles game ever. As hard as it is to hear, this trash doesn't showcase the turtle power of the heroes in a half shell.
