6. Sker Ritual

Suicide Squad Kill the justice league
Wales Interactive

Although Maid of Sker was far from spectacular, its horror elements, creative enemy designs, and eerie soundtrack proved it had potential. So, when an online COD zombie-like spin-off was announced, it was Wales Interactive's chance to learn from Maid of Sker's mistakes.

However, Sker Ritual makes its predecessor look like a masterpiece. It has every tropes that bad games are expected to have, like rampant bugs, frame-rate issues, and shoddy level structure.

But another fundamental flaw that Sker Ritual suffers is how needlessly busy the screen is. The left section of the screen is covered in a slew of sub-missions, written in a comedically small font. Progress reports pop up on the right side when you perform certain achievements, like Critical Kills or Assisted Kills. And with other dialogue and location markers littering the top, middle, and bottom of the screen, (sometimes at the same time), it can be impossible to tell what's going on.

Also, blasting everything in sight gets tiresome quickly. Yes, FPSs like Doom and Wolfenstein have (unsurprisingly) a lot of shooting as well, but it's satisfying because it always feels like you're making progress.

But here, you're just wailing on wave after wave of mindless drones before moving onto the next tedious section, which is anything but rewarding.

The first instalment showed promise but Sker Ritual may have single-handedly killed the brand before it had a chance to take off.
