10 Wrestlers You Didn't Know Were In Non-Wrestling Video Games

2. Ronda Rousey (Sonya Blade)

Earlier this year, Ronda Rousey swapped combat sports for kombat sports, as she assumed the voice role of Mortal Kombat perennial Sonya Blade for the latest edition of the long-running gorefest.

Ironically, Blade was the one character in the original bloodbath whose digitised actor wasn't a legitimate martial artists, portrayed by fitness model Elizabeth Malecki. No-one with a fondness for their face could accuse Rousey of not being legit however, making her the perfect fit for the fighter.

Or was she? Shortly after the game's release, Mortal Kombat fans got up in arms over her inclusion. Not only was her acting a bit crap, but they didn't feel that anyone who had made statements propagating Sandy Hook denial and transphobism had any place in their game. A game, keep in mind, about ripping people's heads off. Such was the extent of the disapproval.

WWE themselves weren't shy about promoting their star; Rousey arrived for 2019's Elimination Chamber in full Sonya Blade garb. Surely this should have meant Ali joining the roster as Sub-Zero?

Benjamin was born in 1987, and is still not dead. He variously enjoys classical music, old-school adventure games (they're not dead), and walks on the beach (albeit short - asthma, you know). He's currently trying to compile a comprehensive history of video game music, yet denies accusations that he purposefully targets niche audiences. He's often wrong about these things.
