11 Addictive Video Games You Had To Stop Yourself Playing

11. Grand Theft Auto

It goes without saying that GTA was going to be on this list; there's just something endlessly enjoyable about being given the keys to an entire world with zero-repercussion and knowing you can get away with absolutely everything. Well we say 'get away with', but obviously the in-game police forces will mount up and come after you, although most of the time it just leads to an enjoyable gunfight or an elaborately half-staged chase across everywhere from mountainsides to city streets. Part of the reason the latest instalment in the series managed to perform so well was down to the sheer variety you have when entering the game world to do whatever you want. If you're only looking for escapist thrills and fancy taking a flamethrower to a bunch of hippies then by all means journey down the weapon shop and enact your wildest peace-lover-burning fantasies. On the other hand though if you got the vast majority of your pedestrian-torching antics out of the way in previous games, Rockstar implemented a supremely rewarding string of high-octane missions to get stuck into, with a story that's packed full of memorable characters too.
