11 Addictive Video Games You Had To Stop Yourself Playing

8. Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker

It seems like forever since 2008 when the last home console version of Metal Gear dropped, but since then we've had the vastly underrated, HD re-released Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker on PSP to contend with. Although it would make the leap to consoles as part of the aforementioned HD bundle, its more limited graphics capabilities in comparison to the other titles in the series plus its origins as 'some portable spin-off' have led to it being labelled as an unimportant entry in the mythos. We literally couldn't have been more wrong though, as almost as if in a bid to hammer home how much effort went into Peace Walker, the events of it are fairly integral to the upcoming MGS V: Phantom Pain. Series creator (and twin-lead on Silent Hills) Hideo Kojima continues the story of Big Boss - originally codename Naked Snake from MGS 3 - as he slowly turns into the heinous military leader we know from 1987's very first Metal Gear. It's actually a fantastic little game, and one that has far more going on under the hood than the other titles in terms of things to do outside the main campaign. To further his vision of a group of soldiers free from being bound to any particular country Boss needs to amass a small army, and its here that Kojima Productions implemented a genius combination of established MGS sneak 'em up gameplay and that of gathering up soldiers Pokemon-style for a full 'collection'. With specific stats and names for each soldier, you gather them up with the ridiculous-looking 'fulton recovery system' - a process of sticking a great big balloon onto someone and watching them whisk off into the sky - watching the hours tick away as you micro-manage your ever-expanding army.
