11 Addictive Video Games You Had To Stop Yourself Playing

7. Minecraft

Actually part of the school curriculum in Stockholm (yes, we're jealous too), Minecraft is the 21st century version of Lego, allowing you to build absolutely anything you can think of - providing you have the time to do so of course. If the series remains one of those titles you're well aware of but are yet to dive in, just imagine what it's like to walk through all the crazy creations you made with any number of brick-based toys when you were younger. Some of the projects groups of people have collaborated and put out just for the fun of it are gigantic recreations of props or scenes taken from popular films (like the above version of Minas Tirith from Lord of the Rings), dioramas of TV shows that you can walk through, and even entire cities.
With graphics that are as initially off-putting as they come, but turn into goddamn loveable over time, the simple approach to supplying everyone with a basic set of tools to mould, carve away and shape the world around them has blossomed into a cultural phenomenon. It's quite far removed from the series' initial 'build to survive' nature and goal-based gameplay, but the result is a far wider-reaching portal into everyone's collective imagination.
