4. Skyrim
Even in 2014 with a full two years since the initial release date people are still plugging away at Skyrim, whether it be through mods or hunting out easter eggs it's proven to be the game that just has a certain allure to it that can't be replicated (at least not as much as the no.1 spot on this list). Still, you could talk to a thousand different people and get a completely different story of how they progressed through the game every time, with what quests they tackled and how they levelled up always changing. Such is the beauty of the world Bethesda put together that everything from gallivanting around frost-tipped mountains offing orcs with force-push spells is just as enjoyable as carrying an entire inventory-full of gear back down to the nearest village to see how much it's worth. Then there's the dragon battles. Just as the clock ticks past the 3am mark and you think you should probably do something else - like say, sleep - you'll see a shadow whizz past on the ground and suddenly be beset by one of the many types of ancient dragons that roam the lands. Instantly you're transported into something of a Gandalf vs. the Balrog-style scenario, trying desperately to fell the beast as you scrabble back up the side of the cliff to find a rock with which to hide from the jets of flame that come flying down from above. Needless to say this feeling never gets old and nor does the spectacle in itself. If the constant questing and exploration doesn't get you, the random creatures who just must be dealt with will.
