11 Addictive Video Games You Had To Stop Yourself Playing

5. Rogue Legacy

One of the hardest games in existence, Rogue Legacy sits up there with Super Meat Boy and Trials HD as a selection of titles that will maniacally cackle at your attempts to beat them, offering you the paltry option to try again as the only course of action short of flinging yourself out the nearest window. A 2D side-scroller where you must attempt to take on a randomly-generated castle as a series of heroes all descending from the same bloodline, you'll have to take on entire screens-worth of flaming projectiles, homing-in ghouls and gigantic enemies if you ever want to succeed. In a very unique twist you only get one life for any given character, but upon losing you'll then choose from three children your hero had before they entered the castle - who will also have random statistics such as gigantism or extra health (and chronic flatulence) that will aid or hinder you. We included it on our list of the most hilarious games for good reason, but the thing that's so accessible about an otherwise incredibly hard game is in its controls. Aside from gaining access to a few powers throughout the game and a dash ability, for the vast majority you'll just be jumping and slashing. You might think that would make the whole thing too repetitive, but instead it perfectly lends itself to being endlessly replayable, with the first thought on your mind after a good run through the castle being "Lemme back in there!"
