11 Best Fighting Games Of The Decade (So Far)

9. Soulcalibur V

Soulcalibur V
Namco

Where art thou, Soulcalibur?

Almost six years have passed without so much as a fleeting hint from Namco that a potential sixth numbered entry in the series is coming; Nightmare, Ivy, Cervantes and the rest of the crew have had more than enough time to sharpen their blades. Surely - with Tekken 7 proving that there's still a place in the genre for three-dimensional fighters - now is the time to strike with a surprise announcement?

Soulcalibur V's still around to satiate the itch for weapon-based combat - and it's still a hoot to play - but the grey hairs are beginning to show, as far as aesthetics are concerned. A revolutionary redesign isn't necessary (Soulcalibur V's core mechanics hold up remarkably well), just a little sprucing up will do.

Oh, and please, Namco, don't forget to bring back the character creation suite. There's enough content wrapped up in that feature alone to warrant a full game release.

After all, who needs officially licensed guest characters when you can make your own?
