11 Hugely-Anticipated Video Games You Won't Believe Got Cancelled

1. The Last Guardian

Okay, let's end on one that still has a glimmer of hope behind it; Team ICO's third game has been in development since 2007, and yet following the 2009 reveal we've seen barely a whimsical hair of it since.

However fan-fervour has stayed strong, actually turning it into something of a video game myth; every time there's a game press conference rolling around and the industry are touting a 'big reveal' or some such PR buzzword, there's always a pretty big contingent of long-time dreamers forever convincing themselves it's going to be TLG.

Of course it never is, although following Gamescom the other week Sony boss-man Shuhei Yoshida recently shed a little light on the project, noting through a comment with Eurogamer that since that original reveal almost six years ago, Last Guardian had been "Totally re-engineered", but assured us that "they're still working on it." Sure they are Shuhei, it's not like we've been told that every year for over half a decade.

The climate may not seem like the most welcoming for a game focussed on a small boy taming a giant chicken-footed cat with feathers, and so if all of this is in service of biding their time it's more understandable, but with the amount of money and resources this has eaten up so far it's either going to be a case of waiting it out until the end, or pulling the plug once and for all. Hopefully it's the former.

Which games were you looking forward to that ended up being cancelled? Let us know in the comments!
