CoD's online multiplayer has been plagued for years by these two issues. The game is so eager to cater to all players regardless of their connection that lag compensation can result in a red-bar player scoring an easy kill over a low-latency player despite the latter having an obvious "natural" advantage. It's a bizarre experience on both sides of the coin: low-latency players will rightly feel that they had the drop on their opponent, while if you've ever played with a red bar connection, you'll appreciate how odd it can be to suddenly start playing like a God due to lag comp. Then there's the overall hit detection, which is all over the place: there's nothing more infuriating than landing 6 or 7 hit markers only for someone to take you out with one shot from an unremarkable weapon. And further to this point, if I throw a grenade at the exact moment that I'm shot and killed. the grenade needs to launch, but often the game will simply "cancel" the grenade, which is massively infuriating considering it should already have been in motion. The severity of these issues have fluctuated over they years, and that's arguably the most annoying thing of all: the inconsistency.
