11 Major Rivalries That Changed Video Game History
8. Forza Vs. Gran Turismo
To hardcore driving fans there's still hope left for Gran Turismo, as any who played the original trilogy will remember just how absolutely dominating they were of the opposition, along with part three being one of the PS2's defining "Holy s**t" moments when we first saw what it looked like running on the new hardware. Then Forza came in and we did it all again, except this time we had full damage models accompanying the cars - something that Gran Turismo had assured everyone would never happen, as millions of dollars goes into creating these grade-A motors and guys like Nissan, Dodge and Chrysler would much rather you didn't bash their windshields in. However Forza saw Gran Turismo's claim to being "The real driving simulator" and gave everyone the perfect combination of realistic deforming car models, interior-modelling, sublime system-selling graphics and a revolutionary level of customisation for each part of every car, picking up millions of fans along the way. In short it's meant that Gran Turismo is all but left in the dust - even despite them finally adding damage in 2010 - but thanks to Forza 5's micro-transaction-stuffed, middle-finger-to-the-fans structure, GT could still make a comeback next year with part seven.
