5. Killzone: Shadowfall
The fourth installation in the popular PlayStation franchise is taking the series in a new direction, set 30 years after Killzone 3. The Killzone series has always been renowned for good shooting mechanics and great graphics, and while it had some contention from the vastly underrated Resistance series, Killzone is undeniably Sony's best exclusive FPS, with the newest installment on the PS4 looking set to continue that trend. The Killzone games are by no means standard FPS games; they often utilise unique game mechanics to allow players to use things like a hover-pack with turrets. This kind of gameplay, coupled with unique interplanetary aesthetics and an interesting, Nazi-inspired story, makes Killzone a really great series that needs to be played! With Shadowfall, Guerrilla Games look set to out-do themselves. Continuing their great graphic style but with next-gen capabilities, Shadowfall looks better than ever. Also, making use of the Dualshock 4 touchpad, you can now control the "Owl", a small helicopter/drone-like machine that you navigate to search rooms and kill hard-to-reach enemies. This seems like a great innovation and addition to the series. On average, the Killzone games have a Metacritic rating of 81, which is good, but the first game brought the score down, while 2 & 3 were much higher-rated. For the latest game, Shadowfall, I imagine developer Guerrilla Games will have taken everything that worked on the previous games and made Shadowfall the best iteration yet.
