11 Reasons Lost Legacy Is Better Than Uncharted 4
10. Chloe & Nadine Are A Better Duo Than Sam & Nate
Controversial, sure, but I'm not comparing Nathan Drake and Sam Drake as characters to Chloe and Nadine - I'm comparing their dynamic, and how they work as a duo.
Despite Naughty Dog doing their best to write Sam into the fiction convincingly, he never felt like a natural inclusion. We were always asked to buy that Drake had a 'secret brother' for three games and across two key relationships (Elena and Chloe), yet he never mentioned him?
Also, Sam is the 'cocky older brother', somewhat reducing Nate to playing the fool/punchline in many exchanges, and when you're out exploring together, the best dialogue they can muster is alluding to "that time when X happened", which was worth a smile, but there was no real progression outside of exploring Sam's character itself.
For Chloe and Nadine, the former hires the latter, and with Nadine being a villain from A Thief's End, they start out on different footing. It takes time for Nadine to even trust her employer, and as Chloe is confident in her abilities and knowledge of ancient Indian/Hindu history, she's trying to get Nadine to open up a little and enjoy the journey. Both are wanting to get past the pleasantries and be more 'human', and together they grow like real people.
There are some fantastically captured moments of inadvertent laughter or scenes towards the end of the game where Naughty Dog somewhat subtly show how far the pair have come, and it's so great to see.
