11 Things Microsoft Wants You To Forget About The Xbox One

6. The Original 'Necessary' Price-Point

Back before all the internet-trouncing, memes and overall hatred was thrown their way for screwing up what should have been a continuation of the 360's success, Microsoft were still pushing a $499 price for both the console and the Kinect peripheral. They assured us that even though this price was a full $100 more than the PS4 it was good value for money - although we also knew that the biggest difference between the two big boy consoles was that all-seeing eye Kinect. The fact is we'd rather just not talk to the thing and save the money, than be forced into talking into space and gesturing like a gibbon all day. Over time as the PS4 has pulled ahead Microsoft ended up changing their policy on the Kinect's necessity entirely, completely back-pedalling on the very notion that it was always essential to the 'future of the brand', instead now selling the console as we'd always wanted. It's still a huge blow to the level of respect a huge company like Microsoft should have for their customers though, giving more ammo to their detractors as another lie is added to the pile.
