11 Unexpected Video Game Jump Scares That Scarred You For Life

5. Resident Evil Remake's Unpredictable Zombie Dogs

The zombie dogs that crash through the windows of the first hallway in the original Resident Evil have become the stuff of legend (and countless childhood nightmares) since the game's release in 1996.

Unfortunately for players, by the time Capcom got around to remaking the seminal survival horror title for the GameCube in the early 2000s, it knew all too well that this early moment was one of the most memorable and well-known scares in the entire game.

Instead of simply repeating the same trick twice then, the developers actually moved the placement of this scare so that the first time you walk through the hallway, nothing happens. Of course this unnerved long-time fans more than it would have if the dogs themselves had crashed through the window, which only made it so much worse when they eventually did on your way back through the hallway later in the game.
