2. The Bald-Faced Lie - Mass Effect 3

The Ending: The climax of Mass Effect 3 has Commander Shepard being given three options by the Catalyst: destroy the Reapers, take control of them, or synthesise all life in the known universe. Whatever you decide, it just comes down to picking a colour and checking out the results.

How It Trolled Players: Yes, Mass Effect fans have never stopped moaning about Mass Effect 3's ridiculous ending, but then, when BioWare had made it clear ahead of release that our actions throughout the series would have major, individual consequences for players and totally lied about it, why wouldn't we keep complaining? Far from the creative fluidity and abundance of choices players were expecting, ME3 ended in a generic "pick a box" fashion, which led to worldwide outrage, to the point that BioWare had to release an Extended Cut to close plot holes and provide an additional fourth ending, in which you refuse the Catalyst, leading to the eventual destruction of the Reapers in the future. After investing a lot of time, money and effort into this fantastic franchise, we expected and deserved better than this lazy patchwork effort.
