7. Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp

In Dragon's Lair II: Time Warp, Dirk the Daring must rescue his wife, Princess Daphne, from the wicked sorcerer, Mordroc. Like its predecessor, Time Warp is an animated short where the player must move the joystick at the appropriate time to avoid traps and monsters.

If you press the wrong button or move the joystick a micro-second too late, Dirk will perish, and you'll have to restart the area. As a result, the only way to win is to memorise every movement you have to make and have the reflexes of ten ninjas.

Because you are destined to become well-acquainted with the Game Over screen, you'd think Time Warp would be unbearably frustrating. However, it's pretty entertaining to see nearly a hundred ways Dirk can meet his end.

If you don't make a single mistake, you can complete the whole game in under ten minutes. Even though its an amazing feeling to beat the game in one go, it's far more satisfying to toil for hours and watch poor Dirk countless creative deaths before triumphing. Sometimes, the player will voluntarily die just to see our knight in shining armour being squished, impaled, incinerated, or blown up.
