Technically released in 1994 as that was when the arcade version dropped, it wasn't until 1995 that home consoles would get their first taste of what a premiere slice of beat 'em up tasted like. Namco's release schedule didn't let up for air in the early 90's, with Tekken 2 arriving in arcades just as this was getting a home release - but all that served to do was foster a community of people who were addicted to the home version, only to become embroiled in the 'arcade scene' too; learning all the combos, move-animations and timings for two games at once. Tekken was just that good, thanks to a roster that is still mostly intact today, with hardly any fighters dropped and the only direction going forward being to expand on an already-phenomenal game engine. It's hard to believe one of our childhood favourites is only now getting onto its seventh instalment, but we can't wait to see what stalwart developer Namco have up their sleeve for the new hardware.
