11 Ways Monolith Should Have Made Shadow Of War
3. Enemy Variety Needed More Of A Shake Up
Shadow of War attempted to fix the first game's problem with enemy variety by adding in huge new trolls and fire-breathing Drakes, but it didn't resolve the core issues that haunted the original release's rogues gallery. Because while these additions were welcome, it was the regular orcs that players had problems with fighting over and over.
Tackling basic axe-wielding enemies is fine, but fans have seen all of their variations too many times before. Guys with shields that you have to hit from behind, ranged enemies you should take out first and orcs that need to be stunned before you can get a shot in are all staples of action games like this, and for the most part are ripped straight from Rocksteady's Arkham series.
The thing is, these enemy types were boring then, too. Shoving the same uninspired enemies at players only results in the same uninspired combat patterns, leading to fights that lack a necessary level of excitement.
