The Actual Ending: There are actually two endings to the original Resident Evil which can be deemed the "perfect" endings, by having the two protagonists, Jill and Chris, escaping on Brad Vickers' helicopter with one of their partners, either Jill's Barry or Chris' Rebecca, each ending corresponding to which character you played as. Even these two mostly-happy endings cannot be considered legitimately canon, however, because the sequels make it clear that all four lead characters survived the mansion incident, even though that ultra-happy ending is not actually possible in the game. The Alternate Ending: There are numerous alternate endings in this game, though the most memorably downbeat and realistic of all the endings has either Chris or Jill emerging as the sole survivor of the mansion incident, looking exhausted and near-defeated as they're silently choppered the hell out of there. Why It's Awesome: It's not as cheesy as most of the other endings, which have corny glances and dialogues between the characters, but also pretty solemn considering Chris or Jill just about made it out by the skin of their teeth.
