12 Awesome Video Games With One Awful Mechanic

8. Vita-Chambers - BioShock

Bioshock Vita Chamber
2K Boston

Dying in BioShock results in the player being resurrected in the nearest Vita-Chamber, a restorative pod which will bring them back with considerable health and EVE while all enemies will have the same health they did before you died.

As a result, the game's original release had essentially no punishment for death, allowing players to abuse these Chambers and simply keep hammering on enemies until they finally fell. The game is terrifically imaginative and beautiful to behold on the whole, and this mechanic basically felt like it had no business being in the mix.

Commendably, 2K did eventually release a patch which made Vita-Chambers optional, but the fact they let such a lame revival mechanic into the game in the first place is pretty frustrating, especially for those who played it on launch.
