12 Awesome Video Games With One Awful Mechanic

7. Unskippable Summons - Final Fantasy

Though the newer Final Fantasy games are thankfully a little more restrained when it comes to self-indulgent summon animations, the early PlayStation titles totally doubled down on the ridiculously time-consuming, unskippable summons.

Sure, Knights of the Round (FFVII), Eden (FFVIII) and Ark (FFIX) look awesome the first time you whip them out, but having to sit through 100-second animations every time you want to pull them off is nothing short of pure torture, and damn-near discourages using them at all.

If you're going to replay these three Final Fantasy games in particular, it's advisable to get your hands on the PC versions, because at least you can use Cheat Engine to speed the damn animations up and save numerous cumulative hours of your life.
